Home-Start Herts celebrates £2,000 grant at Lloyd’s Market Charity Awards

Hertfordshire’s leading Children and family support Charity, Home-Start Herts, was one of 32 charities honoured by Lloyd’s Charites Trust, in recognition of the support they give to individuals working in the Lloyd’s Insurance market.

The winners accepted their £2,000 grant at a gala reception in the Underwriting Room in the Lloyd’s Building, before an audience of charity representatives, colleagues, friends and family.

Home-Start Herts were nominated by a St Albans based father of three who works in the Lloyd’s market. The family are currently receiving weekly support from one of the charities’ trained and experienced volunteers.

The family have 3 children aged 6, 4 and 12 months. At the age of 6-9 months, their 4 year old was diagnosed with Autism, she also has Global Developmental Delay, Hypermobility and significant speech and language delays.

When taIking about the difference Home-Start has made, the Children’s mother said “We attend a playgroup every Friday morning and I am able to give my attention to both the baby and my 4 year old in turn, knowing that the other is safe with our volunteer. It is lovely to see my daughter accessing a public playgroup (something I didn’t think would be possible). I will never forget seeing her smile for the first time at the playgroup a few weeks ago.”

Home-Start Herts representatives Suzy Moody (Strategic Manager) and Donna McMillan(Coordinator) attended the event to receive the grant, presented by Chris Harman, Chairman of Lloyd’s Charities Trust and Partner of JLT.

In his speech he said “The trustees were so impressed by the efforts of this year’s winners. People in the Lloyd’s market are making a fantastic impact and we are delighted to recognise that through the Lloyd’s Market Charity Awards.”

Suzy Moody said “We were really proud to represent Home-Start at such an inspirational event, alongside so many other amazing charities and people that are providing support and lifelines to help people through some of their darkest days”

“Home-Start receives some fantastic support from business, and this was just another example of how a company can make a real difference. The grant that the Lloyds Market Charity has donated will enable us to support two families for 9-12 months.”
