Hunter & Uro take on 10K challenge in aid of free legal advice

The partners of a Bedfordshire family law firm have completed a 10km sponsored walk to raise crucial funds for free legal advice charities in Bedford and across the Eastern region.

Philip Hunter and Pui Uro, of specialist family solicitors Hunter & Uro, took part in the Bedford Legal Walk on Thursday 21st September in aid of the Eastern Legal Support Trust (ELST), which raises money to support the free legal advice sector, awarding grants to charities to ensure vulnerable people throughout the region can access the help and support they need.

With many working families’ incomes decreasing following the economic downturn, the number of people desperately in need of legal advice but finding it financially unattainable has risen.

The lack of funding for free advice services has meant that some organisations have had to merge or close, leaving whole communities with little or no access to advice if they are unable to afford legal fees.

Philip said: “It was great to join so many people from the legal sector, such as the judiciary, government departments and other law firms – as well as their friends and families – to raise funds and awareness for such an important cause. The feet are aching now but it was fantastic to help raise funds for the ELST.”

Pui added: “Protecting access to free legal advice for those who have nowhere else to turn is crucial. This is why we have taken steps in our own business recently to make our legal advice more accessible, with the launch of our discount scheme for key workers and signing up to the Law Society’s Pro Bono Charter. So, we were delighted to take part in this event and show our support for such a great cause.”
