Local Pet Food Company Gives A Dog A Home

Premium pet food brand Barking Heads has supported local charity DENS by supporting a pet owner and their dog.

The Hemel Hempstead based charity is one of very few homeless shelters that accepts dogs as well as their owners. DENS also supports residents to help them access settled accommodation in the private rented sector.

Recently, the charity approached the pet food company with information about one of their residents. Les Andrews, 31, was recently released from prison and was reunited with his dog; however like many other people, he found it impossible to find accommodation that accepted pets and was sleeping in his car.

Les finally got in touch with DENS and was placed in The Elms night shelter, along with Hank, his dog. Whilst he is staying at the shelter, DENS have been working hard to find a local landlord who is willing to accept a dog but it is normal practise for landlord to request a pet deposit of £200.

Whilst local councils provide a ‘deposit bond’ in place of a cash deposit to landlords to secure private rented property, they do not cover any pet deposits.

This is where Barking Heads saw the opportunity to help and decided to pay for Hank’s pet deposit.

Jim Moloney, Co-Founder of Barking Heads explained:

“We are so pleased we can be a part of Les and Hank’s journey to a new home. We work closely with DENS and when we found out about Les and Hank, we wanted to help.

“We are so pleased we can be a part of supporting Les and Hank in finding a home. We wish them nothing but the happiest of endings.”
