Taylor Walton celebrates Apprenticeship Success: You’re Hired!

Derri Nelson has completed the Level 5 HR Apprenticeship and passed the professional CIPD Level 5 Applied Diploma in HR. Niamh Moore has passed the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives – Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship in Property Law and is continuing with her studies so that she will qualify as a Legal Executive.

Derri and Niamh joined the top ranking regional law firm two years ago after completing their A Levels. Raring to start their careers both were attracted to an Apprenticeship and researched local employers for opportunities; Derri was set on pursuing a role in Human Resources and Niamh was clear about her interest in gaining experience and a qualification in Property Law. On deciding to take the apprenticeship route, Niamh said, “Whilst my friends were applying to go to university, I was keen to get straight into work and work for a well-known employer. I was drawn to the combination of earning, gaining real work experience and getting a qualification. I knew Taylor Walton had a great reputation and was so excited to be taken on. The experience has been far better than I could have imagined.”

Derri has secured a full time permanent position as HR Assistant in the firm’s HR department. When asked about her experience Derri said, “It has been hard balancing work and studying but the experience has been hugely rewarding. I have had the opportunity to work alongside the HR Manager and get involved in all aspects of people management and training. I particularly enjoyed working on my Change Management Project and taking a lead role in elements of roll-out of a new internal HR database. These are things you do not get when sitting in a classroom learning environment. For me the apprenticeship route has been fantastic.”

Working closely under the supervision of a qualified solicitor, Niamh quickly built up her confidence and skills. She is not only able to handle the legal aspects of a property transaction but manages a busy caseload with competing priorities, works as part of a team and confidently answers client questions. Not satisfied to stop there, with the continued support of the firm, Niamh has committed to more studying to fulfil her ambition to qualify as a Legal Executive.

Dermot Carey, Taylor Walton’s Managing Partner said, “It has been a real pleasure to support Derri and Niamh and I am delighted that they both wish to develop their promising careers with us. The Apprenticeship Scheme is a wonderful opportunity which adds flexibility to the routes individuals can take to achieve their career aspirations. As a firm, we certainly hope to continue to create these opportunities to attract and retain key talent.”
